Short comments- Burger King, Sulekha Anti-Jugaad, Eye Spa

Burger King – Take a little help from Mc Donald’s

In the burger business or let’s say in the informal restaurant business McDonald’s is the leader with the largest number of outlets. There is always a Mc Donald’s within reach. In this ad Burger King acknowledges Mc Donald’s strength and tries to use it to its advantage; this indeed is a bold thing to do. The impression that this ad attempts to leave in the consumers’ mind is that Burger King is far better than Mc Donald’s and it is worth every effort to go to a Burger King restaurant even if it is distantly located, and even if you need have a light snack at Mc Donald’s (Mc Drive) on the way, the effort is certainly worth it. The ad tries to make you feel that Burger King is a

Short Comments - 2

Full page ad
This is continuing from my earlier post. There are two press ads I would like to write about one is the full page jacket ad announcing the diamond jubilee of Vicco Laboratories and the other is that of Silk Museum, well there is nothing much to write about because the copy in these ads speak for themselves; the Vicco ad is quite interesting in peculiar way, but I have not understood the headline. What does 'Affluent Tradition & Opulent Heritage' mean? I am totally foxed!
The above is an ad of a saree shop located in central Bombay. The copy reads ans you can see,'Enhance The Status of the wives of the Own of Private Plane,...' This according to me, as I understand strictly from the above ad, means if you buy sarees from Silk Museum you will be enhancing the status of the wives (how many wives is not specified) of one guy who owns a plane, helicopters, luxury cars and he also happens to own film stars, politicians and one industrialist; this guy, whoever he is, surely is unique and has no parallel any where in the world. Now what are Hi-Fi sarees, as far as I know hi fi is short form for high fidelity, what does it mean here?

Thanks to to such interesting ads, they surely bring joy to everyday humdrum and stress, don't they?

Short Comments on12.12.12

Today happens to be 12.12.12, a unique combination of numbers; I did not plan to do a post today but the date being12.12.12 I thought why not write a few short comments on recent press ads today. All these ads were released in The Times of India, Mumbai edition.

Comfort After Wash Fabric Conditioner
Comfort Fabric Softener has been around for a very long time but now the positioning seems to have changed. My personal feeling is that when you call it a fabric softener you send a definite message that it softens fabric, but what is a fabric conditioner? The ad says it gives clothes shine and fragrance, “the clothes are super soft” is mentioned in smaller types. Has the brand/product proposition become a little blurred now?

Good Day Biscuits
This is an innovative ad from Britannia but look at the howler; it says ‘Good Day’ right in the middle of a tragedy. Later The Times of India apologized because some readers found it insensitive.
Banning Gutkha
I never ever imagined that I would see ads like these. The  manufacturers of gutkha have protested the ban on gutkha, according to them cigarettes are far more harmful when compared to gutkha yet it is gutkha that is banned and not cigarettes. Harm caused by gutkha is quite well-known but I feel gutkha manufacturers have a point, why ban gutkha when cigarette smoking continues to be legal? In my opinion cigarettes should also be banned!
Mother Dairy
Mother Dairy recently changed the look of their plastic pouch containers and ran a short ad campaign. I always knew what whole milk is but did not exactly know the difference between toned milk and skimmed milk; thanks to their campaign I know now.

Some short comments on recently seen in India

I would like to put down some thoughts and comments on some of the recent and current ads: Corelle, Parachute Scalp Therapie, Makemytrip.com, Sonic branding -- Storyboard, Frooti, Monster.com and Fanta.

Corelle
The ad says that in order to demonstrate that Corelle Glass Dinnerware “is still as durable as ever” the runway was greased. The ad shows a model fall and drops the Corelle plate she was holding, but the plate does not break. This is one of oddest ads I have ever seen. Are they using humour in the ad? By the look of the ads it does not seem so, in fact it is a bit horrifying to see the lady fall suddenly. Surely there are other ways to show the durability of the product.
